Dreamweaver Web Design Introduction

Course Description

Dreamweaver Web Design is a hands-on course that will introduce you to the basic features of the Macromedia Dreamweaver  Web development application.

This course is designed primarily for new or prospective Web designers who want to use Macromedia Dreamweaver to create Web sites.

Course pre-requisites

To ensure your success, you must have a basic understanding of how to operate your computer. For example, you should know how to launch an application, create and save files, and copy files from CDs and other media.

What you'll get out of this course

By the end of the introduction course you will be able to design and build a site from scratch using Dreamweaver.

You will be able to:

  • enhance text with style sheets
  • link the pages together
  • insert images and other media
  • organise your site using the site panel

Getting Started with Dreamweaver

  • Exploring the Dreamweaver environment
  • Working with Panels
  • Working with a document
  • Creating a new document
  • Entering basic text - headings h1, h2, h3

Formatting & Styling - using Style Sheets (CSS)

  • External Style Sheet (CSS) files
  • Styles for Headings (h1, h2,h3)
  • Styling "layers" with CSS
  • Styling the whole page - Background Colours
  • Using CSS to style your webpage

Using Dreamweaver Layers & CSS - for Page Layout

  • Absolute Positioning
  • Using Nested Layers (& CSS) - to position boxes inside boxes
  • Using CSS classes to style text - "cascading" through elements

Basic Web Graphics - inserting an image

  • Web Images - Basic Preparation (in Fireworks)
  • Smaller Images - Smaller File Size & Web download
  • Using an image for background
  • Repeating (tiling) a background image
  • Inserting an image into a document

Using Links

  • Named Anchor Links
  • Linking pages together into website
  • Link to launch viewers e-mail
  • External Links to websites - open in new window ?

Organising Final Website

  • The Root Folder & default images file
  • Relative or Absolute Addressing of Site Assets
  • Using the Site Panel
  • Uploading site to Web Hosting Server - (Overview)
